Suchomimus is a large spinosaurid from the late Aptian stage of the Cretaceous period.

Suchomimus was added to The Isle alongside the Ankylosaurus in Patch 0.0.0.90.

In Real Life[]

A very close relative of Baryonyx, Suchomimus was around 10-11 meters long and weighed around 5 tons. Like many spinosaurids, Suchomimus likely preyed on fish and small to medium-sized dinosaurs and it possibly scavenged and stole other carnivores kills. A 2005 study showed that Suchomimus was able to bite with a maximum bite force as strong as Alligator mississippiensis, giving Suchomimus a bite force more than capable of catching terrestrial prey.

Suchomimus arms were heavily muscled, indicating it probably used them in predation. Additionally, the jaws were built to resist twisting forces and the teeth were designed for grabbing, not slicing. This is an example of convergent evolution, as spinosaurids and crocodilians evolved similar teeth and jaws for the same reason despite being only distantly related. It was likely one of the apex predators in its habitat, competing with the crocodilian Sarcosuchus.

In The Isle[]

"The Suchomimus finds itself in a unique spot in the ecosystem, able to traverse the land and thrive in the shallows. Large and powerful enough to deter most predators, whilst lacking the speed and stamina necessary to hunt most land based creatures. Instead relying primarily on a diet of fish, the perfect animal to deploy alongside the long awaited Fishing Mechanic."

-Official The Isle Roadmap

Pound for pound, the Suchomimus is the most powerful mid-tier (in Survival) the game, only behind apexes in strength.

While the Suchomimus does possess increased swimming speed and half the stamina drain while swimming, it is still unable to reliably ambush from the water as it is too exposed.

When faced with an Apex Predator, such as Tyrannosaurus or Giganotasaurus, the best thing for a Suchomimus to do is to lose them either through a dense forest or swimming across a large lake, as it can outrun and outstam Giganotosaurus and outstam Tyrannosaurus. Being the largest and strongest mid-tier carnivore (in Survival), the Suchomimus can overpower other medium-sized dinosaurs such as Allosaurus with ease. The Suchomimus is slow (only faster than Giganotosaurus and Triceratops) but makes up for it in high stamina. It should also generally reside near a large body of water to take advantage of its swimming bonuses.

General Information[]

Pros:[]

  • Most powerful mid tier, only below apexes
  • Can kill anything below Sub-Giga,
  • 4th highest weight in survival, higher than both full sub-adult Giganotosaurus and Tyrannosaurus.
  • Can swim fast and has halved stamina drain from swimming.
  • Decent ambush speed, (slightly faster than a Dilophosaurus sprint).
  • Good bleed damage
  • If positioned correctly and with the camera facing downwards, it can completely submerge itself while laying down, allowing it to ambush from the water easily, especially at night.
  • High weight and damage
  • Good stamina and bleed resistance
  • Sniffs very fast while walking in juvie stage
  • Quite powerful juvie stage
  • Can often overpower sub-adult Tyrannosaurus and Giganatosaurus players with ease.
  • Full adult has great hunger time and can get from an empty stomach to nearly full on two Avaceratops.
  • Full adult can "1-shot" anything the size of or smaller than a full adult Dilophosaurus.
  • Despite Acrocanthosaurus being larger than it, Suchomimus does superior raw damage.

Cons:[]

  • Very slow in every department (3rd slowest dinosaur in survival, slowest ambush of any survival dinosaur)
  • Even with its swimming boost, an ambushing Giganotosaurus or Tyrannosaurus rex can swim slightly faster than it.
  • If caught off guard, it is hard to escape a Tyrannosaurus rex or a Spinosaurus since their ambush is faster, and even harder to kill one.
  • Long growth time (just under 4 hours) compared to other mid tiers

Future[]

  • Once they are added, fish will be the main prey of the Suchomimus
